Senior SRE / Backend Engineer (On-Call & Operations)

We're looking for an engineer to operate and harden the production backend of a HIPAA-compliant dental-health SaaS platform. The project moves dental patient records and imaging — including CBCT and DICOM — between general practices, specialists, and dental schools. We have an installed base of institutional customers and are now building an AI-powered RCM product on top of that platform. The engagement starts as a scoped on-call and hardening period, then expands on fit.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Operating and hardening production backend infrastructure on AWS / EKS;
• Managing Kubernetes (EKS) and Docker environments;
• Maintaining and improving CI/CD pipelines via GitHub Actions (dev → staging → prod);
• Supporting observability practices: Prometheus, Grafana, structured logging;
• Owning incident response and on-call discipline;
• Shipping operational fixes in TypeScript / Node.js when needed;
• Working embedded in our GitHub workflow — PRs to dev, same review and CI gates as the core team;
• Using AI tooling (Claude, Cursor) as part of daily engineering work.

What we expect from you:

• Strong hands-on experience with Kubernetes (EKS) and Docker in production;
• Solid AWS infrastructure experience;
• Experience with CI/CD setup and operations (GitHub Actions or similar);
• Practical experience with observability tooling: Prometheus, Grafana, structured logging;
• Incident response discipline and comfort with on-call responsibilities;
• Enough TypeScript / Node.js to ship operational fixes independently;
• Strong ownership mindset and ability to work with limited handholding;
• HIPAA / PHI handling experience is a strong plus;
• US healthcare / dental domain experience is a plus.
